USAP Community School
April 10, 2024
The USAP Community School (USAPCS) is a non-profit A level residential high school that educates brilliant and determined Zimbabwean students who would otherwise not have access to quality education.
100% of the students are high-achieving, low-income students aged between 15-19 who are extremely motivated and talented from challenging, economically-disadvantaged backgrounds in rural areas, urban townships, and including the Tongogara Refugee Camp.
The school, based on Quaker values of Integrity, Equality, Service and Curiosity, cultivates future leaders in all fields who are ethical, skilled and empowered to make an impact in their communities, the future of Zimbabwe and on the African continent.
The vision of the school is to be a global leader in transformative education exclusively for low-income students, sustained by their own success through alumni support.
Every student at USAPCS is on need-based scholarships, with the average scholarship accounting for 95% of costs. By 2024 the school has welcomed 185 students in the first five cohorts, and the first two graduating classes have earned over 12 million in college scholarships.
Simbisa Brands has been pivotal in supporting the USAP Community School with the funding for the majority of Phase One construction of their permanent campus. The buildings which Simbisa’s support contributed to include three classrooms, two laboratories, six student residences, and eight teachers' houses.
These buildings were key in providing an intentionally built, sustainable home for the USAP Community School making it possible for the school to transition to its permanent campus site in Marondera end of March 2024.
In addition, Bakers Inn provides bread for the students and Simbisa has for three years co-hosted the Roger Brackeley Marathon with HAC, with money raised going towards the school’s development.
